Myrke flood bank (geo-textile problem) - January 2010

The composite image below clearly shows significant degradation of the flood bank reinforcement.

The original embankment can be seen here.

Sub-standard in design and construction, this embankment was dismantled and rebuilt in 2004 at a cost of £1.3m.

The 4,000 sq metres of specially grown turf protection is disappearing fast thus leaving the black geo-textile material reinforcement exposed to both mechanical and solar damage.  In my opinion it is only a matter of time before the geo-textile reinforcement fails to fulfil its purpose.

Dear Doug,
We have received a copy of the Atkins report which coincides with my Observation document. However the report denotes that some rectification work is required to replace the UV protection.
Therefore with reference to our previous conversation on the matter, may I ask when this is intended to take place.
Kind Regards
Ian.
