The Jubilee River story - Myrke embankment and ditch (Feb 2011)

These three images were taken on 27 February 2011 and record the deteriorating state of the Myrke Embankment and Ditch at Datchet.

350m of this embankment was rebuilt in 2004 at a cost of £1.3m.

When the Jubilee River is in use, this embankment reduces overland flood flows into Datchet.

The geo-textile reinforcement is exposed to sunlight and mechanical damage. Also note that the material is bulging due to internal stress.

The watercourse is designated 'main river'.

The picture below was taken after completion in December 2004
