Kingsmead Quarry - Start by asking questions

Having seen for myself the slurry operations adjacent to the railway line, I immediately sent the following e-mail to the local Borough Councillor for the area - Colin Rayner with a copy to Councillor John Lenton.

Subject: Slurry disposal at Kingsmead Pit

Colin

I was asked to investigate the source of a nauseating odour.

Travelling upwind I found what appears to be a slurry burial activity at the redundant Kingsmead Pit off Welley Road, Horton.

The location is adjacent to the railway line - approximately half-way between Wraysbury and Sunnymeads Stations – at the point where the public footpath between Wraysbury and Horton crosses the railway line.  The site itself is approximately 200m x 50m in area.

Please see attached high resolution image HPIM4353.jpg taken today (just one example of many)

My question is - is it permissible to dispose of slurry in this manner in this area – i.e. in gravel beds with a naturally high water table and ground-water flow - bearing in mind that the existing nearby water bodies are used by the fishermen, dog walkers, the local sailing clubs and the Wraysbury diving centre?

Maybe you could let me know promptly please?

Thanks

Ewan
