The Jubilee River story (0948e) - UK Floods – September 2012

Yet again we witness households and businesses devastated by flooding, and hear claims about extraordinary precipitation.

Without getting into a debate about global warming and climate change it appears that extreme weather events are increasing in frequency.

My view is that weather and flood warnings alone are insufficient and that more can be done in advance to reduce the probability of flooding by maintaining the rivers.

Surely insufficient and ever decreasing watercourse capacity is a consequence of benign neglect.

I believe the Environment Agency must take action now to ensure that the drainage system is fit for purpose nationwide.
