Myrke Ditch maintenance - EA negligence?
The Environment Agency has failed to maintain the conveyance capacity of the Myrke Ditch between Eton Road and Slough Road in Datchet. This watercourse is liable to cause flooding, designated 'Main River' and the responsibility of the Environment Agency.
Below: e-mail dated 27/7/2010 to Councillor Colin Rayner at RBWM from Ewan Larcombe
Colin
At the RBWM Council Meeting on 27 July, you requested evidence to support my allegation that the EA had taken over the Critical Ordinary Watercourses and then abandoned maintenance. Attached are two images of the Myrke Ditch in Eton Road, Datchet, which is designated Main River and was previously critical ordinary watercourse. The EA is responsible for this watercourse!
The first image shows the watercourse in December 2004 (after the £1.3m embankment rebuild). The second image shows the watercourse on July 25th 2010. The EA’s concept of maintenance includes cutting the grass and trimming the bushes, but excludes regular planned weed growth clearance.
The Datchet Common Brook that flows on into Wraysbury is in the same state as the Myrke Ditch. If you would like my guided tour that highlights numerous examples of EA incompetence and/or negligence, please let me know?
Hope this helps. Regards - Ewan
