The Jubilee River story - RTPI Planning Achievement Award 2002

The MWEFAS received an award from the Royal Town Planning Institute in 2002.

My letter to RTPI dated 16 January 2003 below:

Mr J. Billingham

The Royal Town Planning Institute

Dear Mr Billingham

RTPI Planning Achievements Awards 2002.

I was surprised to see The Jubilee River amongst the nineteen finalists in your competition. For your information, the actual results of the Environment Agency's recent attempts to control the Thames using the new Jubilee River are properly recorded in the local newspapers. The Leader of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council used the word 'fiasco' when calling for an investigation into flooding (text copy attached).

You may consider reading the following two reports in the Daily Telegraph (8 January).

'River deep, tempers high by the Thames'

'We warned them it would happen, but they believed their computer'

These are available on the web, and may help you to conclude your deliberations.

Yours sincerely

Ewan Larcombe
