The Jubilee River story - The Horton Drain problem (!984)
The groundwater level in Wraysbury had risen slowly and steadily over many years.
Detailed investigations revealed natural blockages in the Horton Drain (from Wraysbury Station to Hythe End) with consequential rise in the gravel pit levels then being reflected in the local groundwater levels.
After installation of gauge boards and a period of monitoring, it was agreed that re-grading the Horton Drain was an appropriate solution.
The Horton Drain is still functioning correctly, but needs regular monitoring and and occasional maintenance.
