1988 Wraysbury, Berkshire - railway bridge collapse due to flooding.

The farm land adjacent to the railway was flooded due to interference with the watercourses

   They created temporary dams

They attempted to pump past the collapsed watercourse

The watercourse collapsed into the newly dug gravel pit

They carried on pumping while water permeated under the railway line and into the pit.

   What a mess!!

   They carried on pumping

This is a similar railway bridge before the event

This is what remained of the bridge some weeks after the event

Railway line left hanging in space

   Collapsed platform at Wraysbury Station

   A 'cover-up' job?

   The morning after?

Damage (scour) caused by fast flowing water

Had to build temporary road in order to install new bridge!!
