SUBJECT: JUBILEE RIVER

ISSUES

Heavy rainfall and resultant high flows in January 2003 on the River Thames caused widespread flooding to communities along its entire length.  The Maidenhead Windsor and Eton Flood Alleviation Scheme successfully prevented flooding in this area.  However,  the following issues arose from utilising the Jubilee River:-

-     Erosion and damage to the channel.

-     Concern that the channel capacity does not meet the design criteria.Resulting potential liability issues [Do we really want to highlight these in public?]

Editors note: This document was published with 'change tracking' still enabled.  The amendment in red 'Do we really etc.' was made by Barbara Young, CEO of the Environment Agency.  Although all elements in red were subsequently deleted from the final document, they remained 'hidden' in the document until they were discovered recently.
