The Jubilee River story (0948z18) UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The Gush - an old watercourse lost and then found
The Gush is the name of a centuries old natural spring fed watercourse in Northamptonshire that ran steadily throughout the year down to the River Nene.
Over many years as the town developed the upper reaches of the Gush were culverted beneath the streets.
In the early 2000s the culverted watercourse was intercepted, blocked with concrete and diverted. The steady downstream flow was totally lost.
The dry stream bed then only carried occasional highway runoff directly into the local river.
The latest information is that the local council has agreed to unblock the culvert (11/4/2017)
