Morpeth flooding could get worse
AS torrential rain continues to fall on Morpeth about 200 houses have been
flooded.
Tonight it is difficult to get in or out of the town which lies in a loop of
the River Wansbeck which has burst its banks.
Emergency services are at full stretch. Specialist teams from Tyne and Wear
Fire Service were called in by their Northumberland colleagues to to
evacuate families from houses by boat.
Environment Agency spokesman Peter Kerr said the situation in Morpeth was
very serious and is expected to get worse.
