Flood insurance problem solved?
Hi Ewan - you may remember that I have been having trouble with my insurers (Saga) over the past years since the flooding of 2003. In spite of the fact that we demolished our house and rebuilt it some five feet above the earlier floods, the insurers insisted on attaching special conditions relating to future flood risks. Whilst this in itself did not concern me, what I was really worried about was the problem that any future owners of the property would face in obtaining insurance on a property with 'special conditions' on it. On the off chance, I recently called into Academy Insurance Brokers in Staines High Street and explained the problem. Within two days they had found me a new insurer who was prepared to cover the property with a standard policy - even though we are in the flood plain and in the wrong postcode.
It seems that they are able to discuss individual problems with the underwriters and, in my case, find alternative cover. Into the bargain - the premium is significantly lower than I have been paying for many years with Saga!
I'd recommend that anyone who is having problems of this sort should visit Academy and ask to speak to Carl - he is extremely helpful.
