Westminster debate on flood plans

Monday, November 24, 2008, 13:40

CONTROVERSIAL plans that could leave up to 2,000 homes around the Humber estuary unprotected from rising sea levels will be discussed in Westminster.

Graham Stuart MP will introduce an adjournment debate on the Environment Agency's Humber Flood Risk Management Strategy.

Under the proposals, maintenance of some defences would withdrawn affecting areas including Easington, Sunk Island, Hessle, North Ferriby and Brough, with no compensation offered for loss of land or property.

The 30-minute debate organised by the Conservative Beverley and Holderness MP takes place in the House of Commons at the end of the main Government business on Wednesday at around 7pm.
