Brough flood-risk homes plan is 'ludicrous'

Property company Westfield wants to build five houses on land at King Edward Terrace but neighbours fear flooding could be exacerbated by the development.
Local resident Phil Thompson said: "The land there constantly floods with not much effort.
"After all the flooding last year, it seems ludicrous to build homes on this land.
"Great pieces of land were submerged last summer after the rain.
"There are two homes nearby which have suffered secondary flooding and yet the developer is still seeking planning permission for this."
Other developments are already increasing the flood-risk problem, Mr Thompson argued.
He explained: "There is a new station car park being built nearby. If there is too much building and tarmac then the water will go elsewhere."
Elloughton Parish Council has also expressed its opposition to the application.
A spokesperson for the council said: "Our worry about this development is the concerns over flooding. We have therefore put forward a recommendation for refusal."
Westfield is seeking outline planning for the development which would see four two-bedroom and one three-bedroom homes on the site.
But the Environment Agency has also questioned the flooding risk to the area.
The proposal will be discussed at a planning committee meeting at the beginning of next month.
