E-mail about insurance - received from Peter (of Wraysbury) 9/12/2007

Ewan - there's nothing new in this!!

After we rebuilt our house (above the 1947 flood level) our insurers put a £4000 excess on us against any future flood claim. This was in spite of our structural engineer writing to them on our behalf explaining the height of the new structure.
We have applied to countless other insurance companies for cover and all have refused once the postcode is quoted. Even though we are now above the 1947 datum. In other words the postcode reigns supreme as far as insurance companies are concerned. The suggestion from the ABI that 'individual cases will be considered' is rubbish.
