Catchment Flood Management Plans - North East region
We are starting to look at how we can manage flood risk to protect people, property and the environment in the longer term. The first step of this is developing Catchment Flood Management Plans.
In total 12 Catchment Flood Management Plans will be produced in the North East region by December 2007. These will aim to:
- look for more sustainable ways to reduce flood risk;
- understand flood risk, now and in the future;
- prevent inappropriate building in flood risk areas;
- plan for the likely impacts of climate change in the future;
- look for wider opportunities to reduce flood risk, such as better land use and management.
It is extremely important that we work with other local planning authorities, landowners, local communities and other groups who have an interest in each area.
