{"id":334,"date":"2020-04-05T22:19:17","date_gmt":"2020-04-05T22:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/flooding.london\/rts\/?p=334"},"modified":"2020-04-13T07:51:22","modified_gmt":"2020-04-13T07:51:22","slug":"wraysbury-drain-3-4-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/flooding.london\/rts\/2020\/04\/05\/wraysbury-drain-3-4-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Wraysbury Drain @ 3-4-2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[pl_row]<br \/>\n[pl_col col=12]<br \/>\n[pl_text]<br \/>\n<strong>Wraysbury and Horton Drain Issues<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>3rd April 2020:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A brief report to Wraysbury Parish Council and RBWM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Background:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>As reported previously the Weir at Wraysbury Station was repaired in July 2019.\u00a0 Some channel clearance has been done but the channel itself requires further urgent attention.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Channel capacity severely limited at Station Road, Wraysbury.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Channel totally blocked and fenced over at Feathers Lane, Wraysbury.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Unauthorised culvert between Feathers Lane and Hythe End Road.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Metal railings collapsed (safety issue) at Hythe End Road.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Weldmesh installed in channel flow path at Hythe End Road.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The current position:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Recent inspection has revealed there is sufficient water at the Wraysbury Station Weir (<a href=\"http:\/\/flooding.london\/rts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_025072186.jpg\">image 1<\/a>) but water flow, level and quality is declining rapidly downstream at The Splash (<a href=\"http:\/\/flooding.london\/rts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_024172188.jpg\">image 2<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0 In fact, the waterway is choked by two fallen trees (<a href=\"http:\/\/flooding.london\/rts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_024872192.jpg\">image 3<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/flooding.london\/rts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_024772190.jpg\">image 4<\/a>) in the channel section upstream of the entrance to the Wraysbury Dive Centre in Station Road.<\/p>\n<p>The four images may also be viewed via the links below:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/flooding.london\/rts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_025072186.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/flooding.london\/rts\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_025072186.jpg\"><strong>Image 1 &#8211; Fallen tree<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is an urgent need for inspection and maintenance of the individual sections of the Wraysbury Drain from Wraysbury Station to the Colne Brook at Hythe End.\u00a0 \u00a0In addition to the two trees upstream of the Dive Centre there are two more fallen trees raising the level and restricting the flow of the Horton Drain at Wraysbury Station.<\/p>\n<p>My understanding is that the Horton and Wraysbury Drains are designated \u2018ordinary watercourses\u2019 and the responsibility of the lead local flood authority (i.e. RBWM).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bottom line<\/strong>:\u00a0 <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">In spite of significant expenditure to date, in the absence of prompt and effective action to re-establish sufficient flow &#8211;
