Council reveals flood cash schemes

East Riding Council has revealed which flood protection schemes are to get a share of a £4m pay out.

The cash from the European Union was given to the authority following the devastation caused by the floods of June 2007.

The council has added a further £500,000 to help with the projects.

The money has been split three ways, with £500,000 being allocated to 98 investigation and minor works projects, including cleaning and repairing drains and repairs to roads and footpaths in villages across the East Riding.

A further £1.2m will go to 13 major schemes, which will include relaying drains at Cottingham and building a new sewer near the Westwood in Beverley.

Parish and town councils hit by the flooding will be given a share of £2m to be spend on 65 various projects, including upgrading drainage pipes and replacing gullies.

The remaining £800,000 will be used to carry out further investigations.

Please note: It is interesting that this money is being spent on reducing the probability of flooding, not on flood maps or flood warnings.
