Lock keepers' homes under threat: Cabinet minister hears plight

The Minister of State for Environment, Phil Woolas, visited the locks in Cookham yesterday following a cross party plea to block the controversial sale of lock keepers homes.
The Environment Agency have said that they want to sell and rent out the lock keepers cottages, to make efficiency savings.
This would mean that the lock keeper would not be on the
site to control any problems such as flooding.
Mr Woolas met Cookham's lock keeper and his wife at their
home in Odney Lane. The meeting was also attended by
Maidenhead Tory MP Theresa May and Reading West Labour MP
Martin Salter.
